AMERICA'S HEALTH CARE

I think it appropriate that we, as Americans, should have as much information as possible before we start spreading opinions about what is good for "us" and our country. Health care reform is a subject close to my heart and one which I have researched and tried to keep up with for the last 20 years. Regardless of your social status, you need health care.

Unfortunately, America is very low on the totem pole when it comes to "quality" in that arena. We need reform and it appears it's coming. Keep in mind health care reform appeared it was coming in 1990 and we didn't get it. So I won't hold my breath. The problem has been, and still is, getting accurate information and statistics, rather than political banter and paranoia surrounding the true issue of our quality of life in America.

We should all take a step back and leave our American egos at the door while we decide what system works and how to obtain it. Before you decide whether we should support the current proposed health care initiatives which are currently under hot debate, arm yourself, your friends and your family with facts, not propaganda. Knowledge is power. We, the people, should have accurate information prior to supporting (or not) the politicians making decisions about OUR lives and OUR health. THEY have excellent coverage on THEIR health but it is OUR health care that is lacking.

We, the people, average Americans, should be ever mindful of the motivations behind the avid speakers lobbying for the top news headlines. Tread softly through the quagmire of politics and continue seeking the truth, rather than following blindly those who are the most verbose. Don't oil a squeaky wheel unless it will truly turn! Some wheels need replacing now and then. Why waste the oil?

As alwalys, enjoy reading and ....

I never thought much of Michael Moore due to the opinions of others. I knew he was considered "radical" and wasn't taken seriously by many. That opinion has now changed.

I happened upon his documentary, "SICKO" recently and was glued to the tube from beginning to end. In fact, I watched it twice to make sure I didn't miss anything.  Regardless of your political persuasion and during this time of political debate over health care, I believe every American can, and should, learn something from Mr. Moore.

sarahpalinSarah Palin's Facebook comments on the new health care proposal creating "Death Squads" (August 12th) was brought to my attention by my brother.  Being fair minded, and rather independent when it comes to politics, I decided to check it out myself.  What I read was shocking, but not in the sense the articles intended...

Basically, Sarah is slamming Section 1233, in particular the clause below, regarding our wishes for life saving measures and other health care directives.  The fact is we will all, at some time, need to have our directives known and enforced.  In short, Sarah seems to believethese measures which will insure out ability to make informed, sound decisions on our health will create "death squads" which will deny us the quality of care we deserve.  All I can say is, "Sarah darlin', you need to read that again!

"Section 1233 authorizes advanced care planning consultations for senior citizens on Medicare every five years, and more often “if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual ... or upon admission to a skilled nursing facility, a long-term care facility... or a hospice program." During those consultations, practitioners must explain “the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice,” and the government benefits available to pay for such services. "

I agree there should be safeguards to secure equal, quality care for all individuals, regardless of age or health condition.  I also agree that there should be safeguards written in which guarantee that cost is not favored over the value of human lives.  I must, however, take issue with the way this provision is being presented, and I will tell you why.
