BULLETINS/UPDATES
I wrote this in 2005, and discovered it cruising through old stuff, It still pertains to life in general, so I posted it enjoy!
Although we all have different names for it (you know don't know what you got until it’s gone, and all that), I simply say getting used to the situation. What I'm getting at is the simple human need for change. That goes for hair styles, furniture arrangements, wall colors etc.
In my perspective, when I find something I like, weather it's a wallet, shoes, watch, any number of things at once, and sometimes nothing at all, I rave over it (them) for an hour, a day, depends on the mood.
Although when the "new" wears off, and our minds search for something else to interest us, we usually find something, don't we?
Of course, I'm getting to something, and it's more of a decision we have to make frequently in our lives. Some choices are easy, and are over before we blink, but some choices are more permanent, and harder to undo.
You’re getting a new roof on your house, lets say. What color do you choose? What style? What warranty length? When you (finally) decide, the roof will be there for many years to come, and unless you have more money than you have sense, that choice is chiseled in stone.
This applies to every choice in life, including the way your website looks, and feels. You can fiddle foo foo all the livelong day with this color, or that font, and never be satisfied that when someone surfs by they will stop and look at your amazing display(s)
so, when to stop fiddling? In addition, when will you know when it's right? I say time will tell, but who knows when? Moreover, who is telling?
Unlike your roof, you can change just about everything on your site. It would be smart for your "time" factor to decide on a name, and stick with it. Establishing a name for yourself is difficult enough, so don't fiddle when everyone is telling you "That's it!!
Do some research on turn over for domains. Try to see why one dot com entity fizzled out when another with the same services is flourishing. Did they have the right pair of shoes? Wrong laces, I bet. Maybe they were knock-offs for Nike.
Either way, only you have the final say on your own decisions. Don't tear your roof off! Wait until' it leaks. ( Or until it's ugly as all get out)
If it is not broke, put your toolbox up!
