Hidden Costs of Web Design

When I first started designing web sites as a hobby, I didn't realize how complicated and extensive hand coding individual pages would become as my site grew. Back then, I only had to manage a page or two (or three) and the word "interactive site" didn't apply.

Here we are years later, and there's plenty of software that automates most tasks, but you STILL need to have a good handle on the "code." 2) Hire a web site design firm that understands your market position and one that won't get "geek crazy" - meaning they are so in love with their own design capabilities, your site gets bogged down with graphics, plug ins, GIF garbage, etc. But, conversely, check your ego at the door when you work with your design firm - I've seen so many good web site designs get ruined by clients who can't or won't listen to what we tell them!
